Class-winning 106 race car!

Its currently in a number of pieces as the guys he bought it from didn’t sell the whole package only the majority but it’s damn cool :)

Kinja'd!!!

First thing we’ve been doing is trying to think of tricks to make it quicker!

Its tricky within the limited rules (not much aero is allowed), but here’s the ideas we’ve got so far:

-undertray under the engine to make it flat’floor

-tape up panel gaps

-cut and swage as many holes as we can in nonstructural bits

-bigger front airdam

Any other clever ideas?

Buy a bunch more and some Saxos too and then offer racing like go karting but with cheap french superminis.

Damn that’s great. You might need to send Kirky some new underwear because when he sees this...

I don’t suppose you can source lighter plastic wing panels and bonnet for it - maybe even door skins?

Love the Alitalia livery!

If there’s a minimum weight limit, you might not be able to take much out of it. On FWD cars it can be tricky because often the weight that can be saved is all in the back, which can make finding a good handling balance tricky because the weight distribution is only going to get worse.

Service and clean the wheel bearings (you can take apart “sealed” bearings) with some spiffy grease to decrease friction losses, experiment with gearbox oils for the same reason.

Just not my old saxo, that thing was bloody awful.

-Have the driver(s) start eating salads. Maybe a tapeworm or two*.

-Experiment with making fiberglass stuff. It’s messy but tons of fun!

-Are the windows already plexiglass? They look like they are. If not, the shatterable stuff should go.

- If you’re REALLY ambitious and have the equipment needed, some porting and polishing could lead to some big legal gains:

* Don’t actually eat tapeworms. They taste terrible and don’t pay rent.

The wings are steel but soon to be replaced with fibreglass :) the doors, bonnet and boot are pretty much just fibreglass shells :)

polycarb every window (that hasn’t already been done)

complete flat floor (if possible)

It’s pretty damn cool :)

We’re not certain we can keep the livery so we’re open to ideas :)

I wish that level of weight reduction were practical on the Ranchero. Not that the wings weigh more than maybe twenty pounds per at the most, but it’s the principle of the thing. On that note I should be able to order wheels soon - mag ones - and also a bit of (tin) body solder to learn methods on and the front coilovers and headers. May have them ordered within the next few days.

As far as i can tell they already are :S flat floor would be good, but need to check the regulations...

Yeah biggest gains will be driver related at this stage :) the engine’s built really rather well so we won’t touch it tbh. Should be 200-210bhp from a dinky little 1.6 based on conservative dyno runs :)

Tbh it’s already pretty well developed. Just wondering if there’s anything else thy might have overlooked...

I’ve got my cage tube, and a friend with a bender, but haven’t had the chance to draw up pieces, chop them, and to take over to his shop. Work has been quite brutal lately.

Could always go with an abstract black triangles blocking so that it looks like a laced-up shoe at a distance. That’s the livery I’d see on that shape. Or you could go with a parody Gulf livery saying “Golf” with green and sand-trap tan instead of blue and orange. #TerribleIdeas

Not yet, but hopefully soon ;)

We're both reasonable in a kart. Nothing amazingly quick, but got a bit of talent for the amount of practice we've had :)

Niiiice... When can I have a go?

What do the aero rules actually say isn’t allowed? Spats? If wings are prohibited, how about adding a box onto the rear to decrease drag? If you can keep the flow attached a bit longer and thereby reduce the height of the wake, that can make quite a dramatic difference to top speed.

I’d go 205-homage/rip-off, personally. The current Alitalia look is lovely, though.
